An excellent pattern developed by Ray Schmidt. The five beads between the hooks add weight to the fly yet the fly is still easy to cast and virtually tangle proof. A fast action 6 weight is the perfect outfit for casting this fly. Work a jerk and strip downstream retrieve and hold on! This is rapidly becoming my “go to” streamer pattern. Take extra care in handling the Rattlesnake as the two x-point hooks are exceptionally sharp.
It’s a good idea to periodically check the strength of the Maxima monofilament that connects to the stinger (trailing) hook as the beads can abrade and weaken the mono. Loop the trailing hook in the finger hole of your hemostats and give the leader a good tug. Please check local regulations regarding flies with multiple hooks. Tied on Daiichi X510 and X120 X-point hooks in tandem, debarbed.
